Critical Book Review

Critical book review will be updated from time to time as various book reviews are undertaken. The purpose of these reviews is to provide some suggested reading for students of politics - and to suggest some books that would be largely a waste of time.

The books that are reviewed have been selected on Amazon to make it easier for you. If you wish to order any of them, go to the bottom of the page and click on the relevant link to order online through Amazon.

Now to the reviews...

"The Prince" by Niccolo MACHIAVELLI is considered by some as the epitome of political knowledge. This early 16th Century Italian prose has some messages for today - but needs to be applied in small parts and with understanding. Rating {where 10 is the highest}...Ease of reading 6, Ease of comprehension 4, Well developed arguments 8, Good ideas 5, Motivational 5, Should read 3, Good to claim to have read 8.

"Deer Hunting with Jesus: Dispatches from America's Class War" by Joe Bageant is a very simple and clear description of how political power and political messages become significantly removed from reality. A powerful and compelling argument for investment in public education and public health. Rating {where 10 is the highest}...Ease of reading 9, Ease of comprehension 7, Well developed arguments 9, Good ideas 8, Motivational 3, Should read 10, Good to claim to have read 1.
